Anni at Hootin' Anni's has challenged anyone who would like to take part to a 175 Word Challenge. Anni has a very cool word counter that you can use to write an event about your life. The word counter counts the words as you type them and then you can edit the words to fit the word count.
So without further ado.........
1965... England. Summer vacation. We decided to take a boat tour to seal island. Water looked pretty calm so on board we climbed. My son Darryl was 6 months old. Out of the harbor and into the open sea.........
...It was a whole new ballgame then. Water was very rough. Halfway to seal island sea swells were higher than the rickety old boat. The Captain was beginning to get a bit fidgety. People began to cry and they were grabbing anything that would float. My dear friend Ivan took Darryl, looked at me and said "I will get Darryl to shore, I promise".....I relinquished hold of my son and began to remove my shoes.
..........By now we had circled the island and we were headed back. We were joined by British coast guard following at a safe distance. I knew that help was just a short distance away but the sheer terror of the moment canceled out all rational thought. I kissed the ground when we stepped off the boat that day.I will never do that again!

Wow, I bet that was really scary my friend.
Oh ya............ME TOO!!! I would be kissing the ground and everyone else that was ashore at the time!!! Good grief, what a scary scary story. [I fear water. Well, at least when it gets above my chin as I feel ground on my feet....]
Awesome 175!!! You did good. I'll add you to the drop down list of the ones who are participating --found on my center sidebar. [And hidden in the sidebar's dropdown menu find the word CERTIFICATION, and click on it!!! Something for YOU for participating!]
Happy Thursday to you Denise.
Good Morning Denise,
I enjoyed reading your 175 Word Challenge from Anni's. That sounded very scary. That is one reason I won't get in a boat or ship. LOL. As I was reading this, it brought to my mind the Titanic. I would kiss the ground and everyone else as well. I am scared of water. I have to be where I can touch the bottom. If it get's past my chest, I start freaking out. I can't swim at all. Hope you are feeling better today. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.
Love & Hugs,
Karen H.
You did awesome on your challenge and survival. Nice job! I hope you're doing well today!
I love reading your story. Nice job.
What a well-expressed story! I can feel the fear and gratitude. So glad you got through that adventure OK. And I love the writing challenge.
Denise,
As Anni says, ME TOO! I don't mind going on ferries or boats, but not in that situation. I too would have kissed the earth when I reached shore. I was terrified just reading it. I love water, but only when I'm not in it. LOL
A great post. Loved it.
As to your question, Sew the Word is great, but I like your Victorian idea.
Blessings,
Mary
Girl.... you have had a life.
Enjoying getting to know you.
Praying
Okay, now that I have had a decent night sleep perhaps I can say what it is I was trying to say but did so ever so poorly. In regards to your post yesterday, Denise, I meant that I got to the point where I released the "care (anxiety)" of it all to the Lord. You know the anxiousness of it all and chose to rest in the assurance that the Lord would not fail me. He will bring it to pass in His time and in His way. I have no need to fret but He needs time to work because He is the miracle worker, not me. Fasting is good and as the Lord directs can be necessary. He wants us to let go of the pain and anguish (there that's the word I was looking for) of it all. That's what I did! Now I go on trusting.
It seems so cliche to say that you are a real gem and a sweet heart of a gal yourself and yet you really are. It may be the Oklahoman in you but I believe it's more the Lord in you shining brightly through you. You have a very dear heart and I think your folks did an awesome job in raisiing you! Look at the beautiful woman of God you've become! They must be very proud of you.
Wow!! I love riding in boats. What faith to hand over you child to someone else for the childs safety. Your word picture was something to behold. Thank you.
Love and Hugs,
