Visit With A Friend

God does not comfort us to make us comfortable, but to make us comforters.

John Henry Jowett

I have a very dear friend that is a missionary in El Salvador. She was in this week for a visit with her friends and family. Her family is about an hour from me thus Wednesday night my sweet DH and I headed out to visit with her for an meal and good conversation. She is just 31 but she and I are very kindred spirits and have been since the instant that we met.

Have you ever known anyone like that? Well she and I were sisters from the get go. It was the first time that I have ever come into contact with another person where that happened.

It was so God.

We have been very good friends since 1996. I have watched her grow in the Lord over these years and I have watch some amazing transformations in her life. She reminds me of me when I was young. I so wish that at the age of 19 I had the wisdom that she had even then ......... However she has had many a mentor in her life. I am sad to say that I did not. However my grandmother on my mothers side was a great influence in my life.

I have tried over the years to give her good council and help her to see things at her age that it took me many years to see. I think I have accomplished that with her most of the time, but I also think, no I know that on many occasions she has mentored me.

In her life I see the frustration of wanting to be right in the middle of the will of God in her life , but I also see the patience to wait on the Lord, and learn the lessons that are so important at this stage of her life. It is a mixture that even the most mature Christian struggles with. Patience vs. in a hurry to get there. Oh I have so been there.

She is headed back to El Salvador around the 24th of this month and she has many challenges in her near future. She is a talented young woman with much to give to the body of Christ. She is growing stronger and wiser and her faith is being stretched and strengthened.
I do not know what the Lord has for this wonderful woman but I am happy to sit and watch as she grows and becomes the powerful woman of God that I saw those 12 years or so ago...... I knew in my spirit that there was something special going on in her life......... I am thankful that she has followed that calling and that leading of the Lord these years.....
I am excited to see what tomorrow holds for her...........

Pray for Christy as she follows the Lord. He has created her for just as time as this.

For someone who didn't have many or, perhaps any, mentors in your life, I think you've turned out alright. Thanks for telling us about Christy. Does she have a blog?

It is so wonderful to have that instant connection with another person. I have had a few in my life, but they are rare. I value those people so much i have been blessed to connect with.

Christy sounds like an amazing woman. It takes a special soul to do what she is doing. I see why you are so very proud of her.

Thankyou for sharing.

Blessings and many hugs sent your way!

You ( Denise) sound like an amazing woman the more I read of you and your perspectives on life, others, and the journey with and to our Lord! I mean that with all sincerity!

Not many posts/bloggers bring me to tears but yours do in a good way...like a cleansing or healing dear lady!

This young woman is beautiful..she has the eyes of the Holy Spirit shining. She is blessed to have you as her 'older' wisdom filled motherly guide. I don't mean that you are 'over-the hill' ( heck I am 52 and dang proud of what it took me to get here, all the tough lessons) I understand what you mean about kindred souls...they are rare, but when they come along, what a blessing and only from our Lord! This is so great you and her share that!

How I wish my oldest daughter ( age 26)...the one just married had a special mentor..she needs to come back to God. My heart aches for her...I have faith she will come back. God will see to it..

I'll keep Christy ( love that name!) in my prayers. Thanks for sharing your special bond with her.

It is fun being a mentor isn't it? I love watching people grow up too!! Their decisions always seem to outdo the ones that I made. Seems like as we get older we learn that and then well...all you can do then is to pass on what you have learned...thus MENTOR!!
Let me know if you got to see the Center of the Earth 3-D. I would like to know if you liked it.

I have a few friends like this. I met one recently via blog land and we roomed together at the recent She Speaks conference in Charlotte. She is a kindred spirit.

God is good to sprinkle our lives with such friends. They are a rare treasure and time spent with them should be cherished above all.

The older I get, the more I appreciate the blessing of friendship and of time. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

peace~elaine
PS: LOVE the look of your blog.

What a sweet post. I'm sure Christy feels the same way...to have such a dear friend in you, Denise.
I was supposed to be named Christy, but I when I was born on Valentine's Day I was named Valerie Chris.
I'll remember Christy and will keep her in my prayers.
She sounds like a very special person.

This is such a beautiful post! I just finished the last chapter in my Bible study, Calm My anxious Heart. It is all about trusting God in the mountains and the valleys, living by faith even in the darkest times, holding His hand through it all. I know that, right now, we are going through a period of trusting God in the decisions we're making.
Do not feel badly about the journal staying with you a month. I believe this is a very special thing we're doing and I know that we will all be touched by what you've written. I can hardly wait until it comes my way again.
I know what you mean about the wisdom of your friend. I wish I had been stronger in my faith and closer in my walk when my children were small. I feel I made so many mistakes. I am just so pleased with the way they turned out in spite of it. God is so Good.
At each phase of my life, He has brought women to me who have become such good friends, but no time has it been like this last 5 years. Billie, Patty and I have prayed together, cried together and laughed together. Today may be the last time we're all together for awhile. God has great things in store in our futures. They have been such blessings to me. I can't wait to see who He sends my way next.

I love when God crosses our paths with fellow followers like that! What an incredible friendship! God is good!
BTW---as a side note...you may need to be a "hat model"---you look so nice in a hat---and Chris can be the jewelry model!

Missionaries are my MOST favorite people in the world....hands down.

My husband and I took a team to El Salvador to do some work with a group down there several years ago. We took our two oldest sons...we had a great time there.

We just had supper last week with some friends and two Salvadorian young men and we reminised about El Salvador. :-)
